The Hebrew Alphabet: the Alef-Bet

Did you know that the term ‘alphabet’ originates from the first two letters of the Hebrew alphabet: alef and bet?
Hebrew is read from right to left, and Hebrew books also open from right to left.
The Hebrew alphabet consists of 22 letters, with no specific letters for vowels. Vowels are indicated by small lines and dots under or over the letters.
Five of the letters are written differently if they are at the end of a word.
