Hebrew Textbooks

One of the questions new Hebrew students and bar and bat mitzvah students ask before they begin is which Hebrew textbooks they should get. Here are Hebrew textbooks, and others, that I recommend to students learning Hebrew based on their specific needs. Brandeis Modern Hebrew is primarily for adult learners.

And for intermediate to advanced Hebrew students, there is now an appropriately named Brandeis Modern Hebrew, Intermediate to Advanced.

Shalom Hebrew! is a beginner’s Hebrew textbook that works for children and adult beginners.

The Explorer’s Bible (vol. 1 – From Creation to the Exodus) is a Jewish Bible text for kids up to high school years, and works well for bar and bat mitzvah students.

The Explorer’s Bible (vol. 2 – From Sinai to the Nation of Israel) is a Jewish Bible text for kids up to high school years, and works well for bar and bat mitzvah students. It follows volume 1, of course.

A Kid’s Mensch Handbook is a textbook to help children learn Jewish values.
